Modena Pigeons

The Modena pigeon is a popular Italian fancy pigeon admired for its compact, rounded body, upright posture, broad chest, and attractive color patterns. Although it belongs to the domestic Rock pigeon family, the Modena has a distinctive exhibition appearance that sets it apart from racing and homing breeds.

Modena pigeons are available in many colors and patterns, including red, yellow, blue, black, brown, checkered, barred, grizzle, and pied varieties. Some birds are classified as Schietti, with a more uniform color pattern, while Gazzi Modenas commonly display a white body with contrasting color on the head, wings, and tail. Their short tail is carried slightly above the ground, giving them a proud and balanced stance.

These pigeons are mainly bred for exhibition, companionship, and ornamental purposes rather than racing or long-distance flying. They are generally active, alert, and manageable when handled regularly. With suitable housing, clean water, a quality pigeon mix, mineral grit, and routine health care, Modena pigeons can make an excellent addition to a home loft or breeding program.
