Male Green-Winged Doves can be identified by a white patch on the edge of their shoulders and a grey crown, features that females lack. During the breeding season, the male performs an intricate bobbing dance to attract a mate, showcasing its vibrant green feathers. 

They build nests from twigs and are known to be attentive parents, breeding successfully in both small cages and large aviaries. Their diet mainly consists of various seeds. Their soft, moaning coo adds a tranquil ambiance to their environment, emphasizing their serene beauty. 

The emerald dove is known for being a good parent and breeds well in captivity.
